David Paterson, the 55th Governor of New York, is a testament to perseverance, resilience, and breaking barriers. His paternal grandparents emigrated from Jamaica, bringing with them a rich cultural background of perseverance and hard work. The Jamaican spirit of “tun yuh han’ mek fashion”—making the most out of limited resources—shaped his mindset, fueling his ability to adapt and excel despite obstacles.
